At a time of profound loss, finding the right person to guide you through a loved one’s final farewell can offer immense comfort. I’m Catherine Walsh, an experienced Funeral Celebrant based in Wigan and working closely with families throughout the North West. With over 24 years as a counsellor and cognitive behavioural therapist, I bring not only professional expertise but heartfelt empathy to every service I lead. My role is to listen, support, and gently shape a funeral ceremony that truly honours the life of your loved one — whether that be religious, non-religious, or somewhere in between.
Every life tells a story, and it’s my privilege to help you tell it in a way that is deeply personal, meaningful, and dignified. Whether you are planning a traditional service, a modern celebration of life, or the interment of ashes, I will be by your side throughout the process — offering guidance, writing the eulogy, and ensuring every detail is just as you wish. Together, we’ll create a lasting memory that brings comfort, reflects love, and supports your journey through grief.

Every goodbye should be as unique as the life it celebrates — I’m here to help you say it with love, dignity, and grace.

Every family and every farewell is different. Whether you’re planning a non-religious ceremony, a graveside committal, or the interment of ashes, I’ll work closely with you to create a service that feels right — personal, heartfelt, and dignified. My aim is always to honour your loved one in a way that reflects their life, values, and the memories you hold dear.
From guiding you through the structure of the day to writing and delivering the eulogy, I offer compassionate support at each step. Together, we’ll create a meaningful tribute that brings comfort to all who attend and provides a gentle start to the grieving and healing process.

Planning a funeral can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re coping with loss. I’m here to offer gentle guidance and practical support, answering any questions you may have — big or small — with care and clarity. Here are some of the questions I’m most often asked:
As your celebrant, I’ll take time to get to know you and your loved one. I will help plan and lead the funeral service, ensuring every word and moment is personal and meaningful. Whether that involves writing the eulogy, suggesting readings, or simply being a calm presence — I’ll be there for you.
A civil celebrant leads non-religious or semi-religious ceremonies that focus on celebrating the life of the person who has passed. Each service is bespoke, and can include music, poems, personal tributes and even prayers, depending on your preferences.
Absolutely. I can help you write a eulogy or tribute based on your memories, or take on the full writing myself if it feels too much. I’ll always send a draft in advance for your approval and can also read it on your behalf during the service.
This is the act of placing cremation ashes into a final resting place — such as a cemetery plot, natural burial site, or even private land. I can help plan and lead a short, meaningful ceremony to accompany this moment, offering a sense of closure and peace.
Whether you have questions, need guidance, or are simply not sure where to begin — I’m here to listen. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch in whatever way feels most comfortable. Together, we’ll take the next steps at your pace.
